From July 7th to August 16th, come celebrate color in all forms with the Candor Free Library! We’ll be hosting FREE activities and programs for all ages, regardless if you have a library card or register for the Summer Reading Program. If you do register, you can choose a free book every week, enter to win weekly prizes, pick up free take-and-make craft kits, and hang out at the library and make other fun crafts. July 7th, Monday @ 10:00am-12:00pm
Splat! Sumthin’ Splatter Tent and Spin Art (splatsumthin.com)
Prepare to get messy (or not)! Create unique masterpieces of spin art. Splatter a large canvas, each other, and/or the tent/canopy walls with water-based and non-toxic, washable fluorescent neon paint (designed to wash off skin and most surfaces, but it can leave mild stains on light colored fabrics). All ages are welcome!
Summer Reading Program registration begins! Choose your first free book and start working on your first colorful craft.

Cornell Cooperative Extension PowerHouse (tinypowerhouse.org)
Green is the theme! Come explore the tiny traveling Powerhouse. K-2nd graders can enjoy a tiny home story time in the cozy reading loft (between 2-3pm). Older learners (3rd-5th graders) can also participate in hands-on experiments exploring STEM concepts related to energy, fuels, properties of matter, environmental protection, and engineering design (between 4-5pm).
Other onsite (and hopefully outdoor) color-filled activities include crafts, Legos, free snow cones, and more!

Paint with Sandy
Create colorful art while learning helpful acrylic painting techniques with Sandy Morris. Fun for children as well as adults. Preregister by July 11th and/or August 8th by calling the library at (607) 659-7258.

Getting Green with Tioga State Bank
11:00am-12:00pm – Children will learn about the importance of savings, needs versus wants, how a bank works, how an ATM/ITM works, what is money, and what is money made of. Preregister by July 11th by calling the library at (607) 659-7258.
1:00pm-2:00pm – Adults will learn about the popular frauds and scams circulating in our society, flags to look for, how to protect yourself, what to do if you become a victim, and more. Preregister by July 11th by calling the library at (607) 659-7258.

Weekly Story Hour
Geared towards children 0-5 years old, but all ages are welcome. Run in collaboration with Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Family Resource Center, children enjoy music, stories, snacks, and crafts. Sign in starts at 10:15am and the fun begins at 10:30am.

Lego Club
Join in the color-filled fun of our Lego Club. Free build, conquer a kit, or accept the nightly challenge! Visit us anytime between those hours. All ages are welcome!

Weekly Family Meditation Time (Taught by Sarah Misson of alignwithsarah.com)
No need to sit still or to be in total silence! There’s never the “perfect moment” other than the moment we choose to just show up. Come as you (and your children) are with an open mind and a willingness to explore what it’s like to “color your world” a new stage of calmness by using meditation and bodywork and by learning about the Chakra system, a colorful part of what creates our perspective. And yes…we’ll have some activities “on the side” should children want to focus on other things.

Weekly Community Craft Night
Crafty but needing inspiration and/or supplies? Curious but not sure where to start or what to do? Join us and help yourself to all of our craft supplies to create whatever your heart desires! We’ll even try to have some craft ideas ready for you each week. We’ll be downstairs in the community meeting space, but there’s a chair lift for anyone who needs it. All ages are welcome! Visit us anytime between those hours.

Speed Jigsaw Puzzle Contest
Sponsored by the Ravensburger puzzle company, race to complete a color-filled 500-piece jigsaw puzzle in the fastest time. Puzzle-related prizes! Open to 8 teams of up to 4 people each. Preregister by July 16th by calling the library at (607) 659-7258.
 
July 22nd, Tuesday @ 6:00pm-7:00pm
String and Shine!
Taught by Alicha Hatch
Enjoy creating a string lantern (using colorful yarn) to make your reading time more fun! This activity is great for older kids (12+-years-old) and adults too. Step-by-step instructions will be provided, but be prepared to possibly get messy as it involves hands-on fun with glue. Plan on a minimum of 30-60 minutes to create the lantern, but then it needs to dry (at least overnight) at home. Preregister by July 18th by calling the library at (607) 659-7258.

Color Music Bingo
Colors will be featured in the titles of songs played during three-rounds of high-spirited bingo. Colorful prizes for each game. All ages are welcome!

Stories with Music by the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes
Children and adults of all ages will enjoy this presentation by a brass quintet of trumpet, horn, trombone, and tuba of Anthony Plog’s “Animal Ditties” that feature the silly nonsense poems of Ogden Nash including “The Duck” and “The Praying Mantis.”

Frost It Fabulous!
Taught by Maryalice Hunt
Learn to colorfully decorate summer-themed cupcakes and brownies! Work with both buttercream and fondant to decorate a few different summer designs on a small scale. The skills you learn can then be translated to larger cakes of your own creation. Preregister by July 30thth by calling the library at (607) 659-7258.
