Candor Free Library’s 2024 Summer Reading Program
Theme: “Adventure Begins at Your Library” 
 
Who Can Participate: EVERYONE…children and adults of all ages!
 
Cost: $0.00…it’s all FREE!
 
Requirements: None…you don’t even need a library card, but we’ll be happy to issue you one as they’re free too!
 
When: July 11th – August 9th, 2024
 
What You Get: 
* A free book of your choosing every week for five weeks
* A packet of goodies when you register : “Adventure Begins at Your Library” passport, “I Love to Read” wristband, magnetic
bookmark, and more
* Free weekly take-and-make craft kits : Create your own comic book, create your own jigsaw puzzle, create your own snap bracelet, journals, and scratch art bookmarks
* Entries for weekly prizes: Gift cards, t-shirts, tote bags, posters, puzzles, water bottles, Frisbees, and more

2024 Summer Reading Event Schedule
 
Thursday, July 11th @ 3:00PM-5:00PM
First Day of Registration, Candor Free Library, 2 Bank Street, Candor, NY
Cornell Raptor Program – Diversity Q&A: Numerous birds (hawks, falcons, and/or owls) will be on hand for participants to see up close, take photos, and ask questions
Numerous other onsite events (outdoors if the weather cooperates) including games (e.g., cornhole, giant Twister, jumbo 4 In a Row), crafts, make-your-own trail mix station, story walk, and more.
 
Saturday, July 13th @ 10:00AM-11:30AM
Beginner’s Sewing Class, Candor Free Library, 2 Bank Street, Candor, NY
Get to know your sewing machine better and then make a coaster out of pre-cut pieces of fabric that will be provided. Class size will be limited to 10 people. Participants must also be at least 15-years-old. Preregistration will be required and will begin on July 1st.

Candor Bread of Life, 1 Water Street, Candor, NY
Community outreach event to register new Summer Reading Program participants and issue library cards to new patrons.
 
Friday, July 19th @ 7:00PM-8:00PM
Teen Taste Test Challenge, Candor Free Library, 2 Bank Street, Candor, NY
Teens compete to win prizes by identifying food items, food flavors, and food combinations while blindfolded. Preregistration will be required and will begin on July 1st.
 
Thursday, July 25th @ 3:30PM-6:30PM
Candor Farmers’ Market, 101 Owego Road, Candor, NY
Community outreach event to register new Summer Reading Program participants and issue library cards to new patrons.
 
Friday, July 26th @ 10:00AM-11:00AM
Music Bingo, Candor Free Library, 2 Bank Street, Candor, NY
Music from the 1950’s and 1960’s will be featured during numerous free rounds of high-spirited bingo. Play along for some nostalgic prizes.
 
Tuesday, July 30th Drop-off starts @ 10:00AM, Pick-up begins Wednesday, July 31st @ 9:00AM
Stuffie Sleepover, Candor Free Library, 2 Bank Street, Candor, NY
Bring your favorite stuffed animal/character friend to spend the day and night with us at the library! We’ll share photos throughout the event on our Facebook page and provide copies to participants.
 
Friday, August 2nd @ 2-Hour Timeframe to Be Determined
Ithaca Physics Bus, Candor Free Library, 2 Bank Street, Candor, NY
An “eccentric science museum on wheels,” the Physics Bus is the perfect setting for self-guided exploration of two dozen hands-on exhibits. Enjoy additional physics demonstrations outside. Learn how science really can be fun!
 
Friday, August 9th @ Timeframe to Be Determined
Smokey Bear’s 80th Birthday Celebration, Hope’s Haven, 84 Benton Road, Candor, NY
This party will be offsite at Hope’s Haven, a local nature preserve whose mission is to “create spaces for people of every ability to get outdoors.” Stay tuned for more details, but hiking and hanging out in the fresh air will definitely be available.
 
 
Our Story Hour for young children meets from 10:30AM-11:30AM on Tuesdays.
Our Lego Club meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month from 5:30PM-7:00PM.
Come and join in the adventure themes for these groups, but please watch for slight changes in the summer schedule.
